A local hiking adventure

We went for a hiking trip today at Bubolz Nature Preserve. We went last weekend and were excited to go again today. Today we went on a longer loop - almost 3 miles. The boys were very enthusiastic. Jack hiked the first mile and a half, and then rode in the backpack. Andy didn't complain until the last half mile. Overall it was a successful adventure! It was a beautiful fall day and these trails are perfect for hiking with kids. They are soft and flat. Jack still tripped a couple of times, but no harm done - he was up and chasing Andy right away. We didn't really see any wildlife, but enjoyed the scenery. You'll notice that all of the boys (Chris included) have their Steelers shirts on - ready to cheer them on this evening!

On our way to the map sign to pick our trail

We decided on the Deer Run loop - Andy's ready to go.
Jack started off on a different trail, we had to get him going in the right direction.
Stopping to look at a pond... I think we actually did see a duck. I thought I read that there might be beavers, but we couldn't find them

Andy was a very happy hiker today
Jack running to catch up to Andy and I. Chris did a good job of steering him in the right direction, away from the tree roots!
Go guys go!

Andy at another look-out point...
Andy and Jack checking out the scenery
Jack was happy to be in the lead for a little while
This part of the forest reminded us of the movie Bridge to Terabithia.

A couple of pictures of Jack and I... Jack was starting to get a little tired by this part of the hike.

Fruit snacks kept the boys' energy levels up :)

Here's a picture of Andy and I, up at a look out in the meadow. One snack break before the home-stretch!
